About Inside/Out

The Inside/Out camp is a day camp that provides a wide range of activities for individuals with disabilitie from swimming lessons to trips to the Peterborough Zoo to overnight camping trips. Activities are during the weekdays and on some weekends. We service a vast area from Round Lake, Killaloe, Quadeville, Palmer Rapids, Madawaska, Wilno and Barry’s Bay.

Summer students deliver the exciting calendar consisting of different activities each day, many with no cost. Activities include hiking, swimming lessons, fishing, crafts, theme dinners, barbeques, breakfasts, berry picking, bonfires, camping, sports and much more. Participants may sign up for as many activities as they wish.

Why Inside/Out?

A contest was held to name the camp and Inside/Out was chosen. Inside/Out captures many concepts meaningful to us. First of all, it represents getting outside and active after staying inside all winter. Secondly, people with disabilities are often seen as being on the outside looking in – observers, not participants. The Inside/Out camp provides that opportunity for everyone to participate. Furthermore, the Inside/Out camp encourages friendships and bonding that may not be created without such a program.

Prior to the Inside/Out camp, many of the individuals we support travelled to a variety of camps around the province. It is true that new friendships were created at these camps, but we believe that it is important to foster year-round friendships. Drastic changes in routine are difficult for some people, so having the choice to remain in a familiar environment for a camp experience is invaluable for our individuals.

We have had seven successful summers thus far and hope to have many more. It is our dream to continue to offer opportunities for friendship, recreation and personal growth in our own community.
